Britney Spears pranks her bodyguards!!

Just putting this out there: If you ever hear the voices of Neil Patrick Harris and Joe Jonas inside your head telling you to do things, you should proably seek medical attention immediately.

Unless you’re Britney Spears doing a bit for “Best Time Ever,” in which case you should roll with it and do absolutely everything they say, because you’re making television and it’s going to be hilarious.

The pop star was a special guest on this week’s (Sept. 22) episode of NPH’s variety show, where she had some fun with a few unsuspecting dudes who were applying for a position as her bodyguard.

Kylie Jenner Accused Of Stalking & Threatening Girl Who Was Love Rival Of Jaden Smith

Kylie Jenner has found herself in a legal battle — and it has to do with Jaden Smith! 17-year-old Chelsea Clark has reportedly issued legal documents claiming Kylie stalked and threatened her over the course of three years as a result of her relationship with Jaden. This does not look good!

Kylie Jenner, 18, may have just gotten embroiled in a serious legal battle. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has been accused by 17-year-old Chelsea Clark of waging a three year campaign against her in an attempt to win over Jaden Smith‘s, 17, heart, according to a new report. Now, Chelsea is begging a judge to issue a restraining order against Kylie and to help put an end to the reality star’s alleged “war” against her.

Yikes! The drama apparently started over three years ago, when Kylie allegedly called Chelsea and warned her to “leave her boyfriend alone,” after learning that Jaden was interested in her,” TMZ reports.  According to the legal documents, Chelsea says Kylie then had people follow her and send threatening messages to her, before eventually declaring, “this is war.” That was hardly the end of it though.  The documents continue to accuse Kylie of going so far as to plan a car accident involving the 17-year-old, in which she claims to have hurt her back

Teenage bodybuilder dies after his heart ‘burst

A teenage bodybuilder who wanted to become the new Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson died instantly when an artery burst in his chest, an inquest heard.

Andrej Gajdos, 19, collapsed outside a Tesco supermarket in his home town of  Weston-super-Mare when his thoracic aorta ruptured.

The Slovakian born teenager had worked out twice a day and used steroids to grow his enormous 7ft 2ins frame to 19 stone of lean muscle.

‘He was loved and known by many people, each with their own story to tell,’ his family wrote on a fundraising page that raised £4,000 to pay for his burial.

‘Andrej was a very keen bodybuilder with aspirations to become the new Rock… he will never reach that height now.’

Bodybuilder Andrej Gajdos, who was 7ft 2ins and weighed 19 stone, had a "history of bulking" and had traces of anabolic steroids and testosterone in his body when he died. The college student, who went to the gym twice a day, collapsed outside a Tesco branch on May 29 and died almost instantly. An inquest heard that Andrej had extraordinarily large organs which were enlarged by steroids, and that they may have put a strain on his heart muscles.

Gajdos’ drug abuse contributed to his enlarged heart – which was 50 per cent bigger than average.

Four different types of steroid were found at the apprentice programmer’s flat in Somerset and he had traces of the drug along with testosterone in his system.

‘Andrej’s heart weighed 680g, and a normal heart is between 400 and 500g. He wasn’t a normal man,’ Dr John Oxley, the consultant who carried out Andrej’s post-mortem, told Avon Coroner’s Court.

He added: ‘Steroids would have enlarged his heart, and having a big heart predisposes thoracic rupture.’

Dr Oxley said he could not be sure if Gajdos’ steroid use had been the direct cause of his death, or why he had such large organs.

The teenager had previously been diagnosed with lung problems including bronchiectasis and the inquest heard his GP also suspected he suffered with acromegaly, a disorder caused by excess production of growth hormones.

Recording a narrative verdict assistant coroner Dr Peter Harrowing said: ‘Such a tear is a very rare event, and the most likely cause is genetic. But I cannot record a verdict of natural causes.’

Dog plunged into £33,000 row over his frozen sperm

One look at this Bichon Frise show winning dog and you’ll want his sperm as well.

There’s also the small fact Beau Lemon’s frozen seed may be worth $24,000 (£15,700), which has led owner John Wangsness and breeder Vickie Halstead to fight over it in a Minnesota court.

The seven-year-old show dog’s sperm may have spiked in price after he received an untimely neutering in 2013, something Wangsness said made his wife Mary distraught before her death this year.

‘After hearing about the neutering, and I’m not overstating things at all, Mary literally cried and stayed in bed for three weeks. She never bounced back,’ he told the Star Tribune.

For the past year Wangsness has been seeking damages in excess of $50,000 (£33,000) and access to Beau’s golden sperm, which was apparently at a veterinary clinic, after accusing Halstead of neutering the dog as revenge for him trying to breed from it.

But Halstead denied the eight vials of sperm belonged to Beau, real name Victoire Gerie’s No Lemon Gemstone, and said they were his brothers, Beau Jangles.

Through her lawyer she added she felt it necessary to ‘rescue’ Beau from his owners because they had neglected him, and the dog wouldn’t have been able to have children anyway due to his ‘deteriorated health condition.’

Beau Lemon won a couple of all-breed best of shows and a gold-level grand championship during his heyday from 2011 and 2012.

He was second best show dog of his breed at one point.

AZEALIA BANKS GOES OFF ON FLIGHT ATTENDANT, USES HOMOPHOBIC SLUR

Azealia Banks is back in the headlines, this time after a run-in with a passenger and flight attendant on a Delta flight from New York to L.A. on Monday night. TMZ obtained video of the incident, in which she uses a homophobic slur on a flight attendant.

According to eyewitness reports, the fight began when a French couple who was removing its baggage from an overhead bin blocked Banks from exiting the plane.

When the husband put out his hand to keep her from squeezing past, Banks allegedly spit in his face, punched him, and clawed at his shirt. Then a flight attendant took hold of her bag and asked her to calm down. The video of the incident begins here. It shows Banks struggling with the attendant over her luggage, before calling him a “fucking faggot.”

DIDDY, JAY Z, AND DRAKE TOP FORBES HIP-HOP CASH KINGS LIST

A lot of rappers love to brag about their place on the Forbes list—truthfully or not. Now, the annual Forbes Hip-Hop Cash Kings list is out, and it shows us who’s actually raking it in.

It’s not much of a surprise that the year’s top earners made a lot of their cash outside of shows and record releases, with most owning successful brands. The Money Making Mitch himself, Sean “Diddy” Combs, dethrones Dr. Dre for No. 1 with $60 million, largely through his Ciroc vodka and other brands. The Bad Boy mogul, who is readying his next album No Way Out II, also has his TV network Revolt, clothing line Sean John, and alkaline water brand Aquahydrate, which help account for his fortune.

For the second year in a row, Jay Z comes in a close second with $56 million, which he earned through Roc Nation and Armand de Brignac champagne.

Drake pulled up in third place (up from No. 4 last year) with $39.5 million, from his busy touring schedule along with Sprite and Nike endorsements.

Rounding out the top five are Dr. Dre ($33 million) and Pharrell Williams ($32 million). See a full list below.

100ft Meccano Bridge Sets New World Record

School pupils and civil engineering students have set a new world record after building a footbridge – made entirely from Meccano.

The temporary bridge, spanning over 100ft across Belfast’s Clarendon dock, has been recognised by representatives from Guinness World Records as the world’s largest Meccano structure.

It has been designed and constructed by a group of students at Queen’s University Belfast and local school children in a bid to encourage more young people to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.

Civil engineering lecturer Dr Daniel McPolin said he hoped the project would inspire his students.

“I just thought it would be good to get them away from the books, to get them away from the computers and calculators, and to give them a chance to create something really, really exciting,” he told Sky News.

Speaking ahead of the inspection by world record officials, Dr McPolin said he was hopeful the structure would measure up.

“We’re fairly confident,” he said.

“We’ve measured the bridge. If it turns out to not be big enough, that would be pretty embarrassing for us.”

The Big Bridge Build project, which includes 11,000 pieces of Meccano and has taken a year to create, has already attracted attention from the engineering and architectural world.

The bridge has also been tested for weight, with several people having walked across it.

Last-Minute Death Row Reprieve For Paraplegic

abdul-basit-1-736x414

The execution of a paraplegic man who was due to be hanged has been delayed by Pakistani authorities.

Abdul Basit, 43, has been on death row since 2009 and became paralysed from the waist down after contracting meningitis in prison in 2010.

He is the country’s first known paraplegic to face execution, but his sentence for the killing of a man over a financial dispute was postponed an hour before it was due to be carried out.

A day earlier Pakistan’s Supreme Court refused to halt the execution, but a decision was later taken by a magistrate after he had talked to Basit.

No further details have been disclosed and it is unclear if another date has been set.

Under Pakistani law, executions can be delayed on medical grounds but a convict can only be pardoned by the country’s president. There has been no comment so far from President Mamnoon Hussain.

The man’s family, who were waiting outside the high-security prison in Faisalabad in eastern Punjab province to take their brother’s body after the execution, spoke of their relief at the postponement.

His sister, Shugufta Sultana, said they were “terrified and nervous”, adding: “We were waiting for bad news but God gave a new life to my brother…”

Basit’s lawyers and human rights group Reprieve argued that hanging would constitute cruel and inhuman punishment.

Amnesty International has called for a moratorium on all executions in the country.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan says 236 people have been executed since the authorities lifted a 2008 moratorium on executions in December, following a deadly Taliban attack on a school in Peshawar in which 150 people, mostly children, were killed.

However, only one in 10 of the 236 prisoners executed since then has been convicted of a terror attack.

Pele Urges FIFA’s Blatter To ‘Tell The Truth’

cegrab-20150922-172856-815-1-736x414

Pele has told Sky News Sepp Blatter should “tell the truth” about what he knows of the unfolding corruption crisis at FIFA, and called for a clean-up of the embattled world governing body.

The three-time World Cup winner is an adviser to FIFA’s football committee, but it has not met for several years.

“I was invited to help FIFA, with Franz Beckenbauer, and we worked together for two or three years, so it is very sad when you see what has happened,” he said.

Asked if Sepp Blatter should step down immediately rather than stay on until an election next February, Pele called on the FIFA President to be “honest”.

“I don’t know exactly what happened, you hear but you do not know. But after what has happened in the last two years, he [Blatter] deserves to be honest and say the truth of what he has seen.”

FIFA is mired in its deepest ever crisis, after the FBI levelled corruption charges against nine officials linked to the world governing body, and the Swiss department of justice opened criminal inquiries into the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Among those arrested and in custody in Zurich awaiting extradition is the former head of the Brazilian football federation, Jose Maria Marin. Pele said FIFA, and Brazilian football, needed to “clean up”.

“This all happened after the last World Cup, when all Brazilians were very sad [about the national team’s defeat], and then you have our representative in FIFA in this situation. So we have to forget the last World Cup and clean up,” he said.

Pele was speaking at the opening of an exhibition of artwork inspired by his career at the Halycon Gallery in central London.

  • Mother-of-one had already married her husband in Islamic ceremony but her parents disapproved of relationship, inquest told
  • Hearing told Ms Menaz had ‘very strained’ relationship with her parents and suffered from depression before her death

A model was found hanged after fearing she was about to be forced into an arranged marriage by her Muslim parents, an inquest heard.

Nadia Menaz, 24, was found dead at her home in Oldham, Greater Manchester in May, five months after taking out a court order to stop her family from forcing her to marry.

The mother-of-one had already married husband Umar Rasool in an Islamic ceremony, but her family did not approve of him and the union was not recognised under English law, Oldham Coroner’s Court heard.

The hearing was told that Ms Menaz had a ‘very strained’ relationship with her parents. She had also suffered depression, and had self harmed, as well as cutting off her hair.

Ms Menaz, 24, was found dead at her home in Oldham, Greater Manchester, five months after taking out a court order to stop her family, including her father Sabir Hussain (pictured) from forcing her to marry

Ms Menaz, a former army cadet who had wanted to join the police but started modelling after leaving home at 16, had met Mr Rasool, 25, in 2010.

They began dating and had kept their relationship hidden from her parents until they married in an Islamic ceremony in April 2011. The marriage was never formally confirmed under English law, but the couple had a daughter who was born in March 2012.

In December last year, Ms Menaz took out a forced marriage protection order at the Family Court in Manchester against her father Sabir Hussain, 60, her mother Ruksana Kousar, 55, and three of her eight siblings. According to government guidelines, the legislation protects women if they are being threatened with a forced marriage or are already within a forced marriage.

At inquest, Mr Hussain and Mrs Kousar denied attempting to force Ms Menaz into marriage and initially claimed they were unaware of the forced marriage protection order.

McDonald’s will ask customers to book a table in the evenings and take their orders at their seats in revolutionary trial at fast food chain!

27DEC7A400000578-0-image-m-16_1442932430267

Fast-food lovers in Sweden will soon be able to make reservations at McDonald’s and enjoy table service in the evenings.

McDonald’s has 36,000 restaurants worldwide, but the experiment will take place in just 31 Swedish outlets from Friday for a period of one week.

Customers will be able to book a table online, and must order at least two items from the menu when they arrive at the restaurant.

The home of the Big Mac is testing reservations and table service in a country that has been a difficult market.

McDonald’s has faced fierce competition there from US rival Burger King and Swedish chain Max.

Nicolas Nouchi, analyst at CHD Expert, a company offering food service marketing, said the concept of fast food was invented in the 1950s.

Commenting on McDonald’s plans, he said: ‘It’s innovative but at the same time it’s going backwards in the world of the restaurant industry.

The boundaries are being erased. There is no longer a difference between table service restaurants and fast-food restaurants, and McDonald’s has joined this movement.’

In its statement, McDonald’s did not specify the goals of the experiment.

However, it has launched a major publicity campaign to let Swedes know they can make reservations.

Can you believe selfies have killed more people than sharks this year!!

rs_560x415-150909135655-1024-gopro-fail-selfie-stick

Mashable has gone through the numbers and it’s official: More people have died from trying to take selfies than from shark attacks this year.

Last week, a 66-year-old Japanese tourist died and his companion injured when he fell down the stairs while attempting to take a selfie at the Taj Mahal.

That brought the number of selfie-related deaths to 12, compared to 8 deaths caused by shark attacks in 2015, Mashable reports.

Most of the selfie-related deaths have to do with falling. The next leading cause has to do with injuries sustained by being hit or injured by a moving vehicle.

The problem isn’t the photos per se. Rather, it has to do with the fact that the people taking the selfies are focused on their phones and not their surroundings.

Selfies don’t just put the photo-takers at risk: They can also cause harm to other people and animals.

Earlier this month, hundreds of tourists descended upon a nesting ground for olive ridley turtles in Costa Rica. Local conservationists say the selfie-crazed crowd created such a distraction that many of the turtles returned to sea without laying their eggs.

Back in 2014, organizers of the Tour de France asked the public to “respect the riders” after a few accidents occurred when spectators ran onto the road to take selfies.

Selfies have become such an issue that the government of Russia has begun a “safe selfie” campaign.

“Unfortunately we have noted recently that the number of accidents caused by lovers of self-photography is constantly increasing,” Yelena Alexeyeva, an aide to Russia’s interior minister, told Al Jazeera.

“Since the beginning of the year we are talking about some hundred cases of injuries for sure. The problem really exists and leads to very unfortunate consequences.

It’s confirmed: Wearables are the ‘next big thing’

Wearables will become the world’s best-selling consumer electronics product after smartphones, according to new forecasts by market research firm Euromonitor.

Sales of autonomous wearables, or smart wearables, are projected to exceed 305 million units in 2020, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 55 percent during the next five years, Euromonitor said in a new report.

That’s well above other electronics like laptops and televisions but still below smartphones, which will maintain their dominance in the consumer market with sales projected to top 1.6 billion units in 2020, Euromonitor noted.

Two main categories make up the wearables market: Autonomous wearables, which include smartwatches and the Google Glass, and passive wearables, also known as basic wearables.

Read MoreLG just dropped a $1,200 23-karat gold smartwatch

The former group boasts built-in connectivity features and advanced processing capabilities that are capable of running third-party applications while the latter has a smaller range of functions. The majority of passive products today are fitness trackers like Fitbits that can only provide biometric data about users.

Improvements in technology and battery life as well the entry of the Apple Watch are among the top growth drivers for wearables, Karissa Chua, Euromonitor’s consumer electronics analyst told CNBC.

Apple is such a strong brand and known for their quality so it has become a major catalyst for the entire market.”

Moreover, the consistent growth rate of smartphones actually pushes up demand for wearables, she explained. “Demand is closely tied to smartphones as people essentially buy wearable products for an extension of the smartphone experience.”

The ascendency of wearable electronics also provides a much-needed boost to retailers and manufacturers as the dynamic growth of tablet sales comes to a grinding halt , Euromonitor added.

After logging a whopping 66 percent CAGR in the past five years, sales of tablets are set to slow to only 2 percent CAGR between now and 2020 due to consumer preferences for larger-screen smartphones.

Developed economies are set to be the biggest markets for wearables, with France and Japan expected to be the two biggest countries for autonomous wearables in 2020, whereas demand in Germany and China is forecast to be evenly split between autonomous and passive devices.

Read MoreSamsung launches smartwatch in Apple fightback

Emerging markets are unlikely to experience high demand for wearables since internet penetration rates aren’t as high and people in those countries are still making the transition to smartphones, Chua noted.

To be sure, Euromonitor’s forecasts are noticeably more bullish than other intelligence gathering firms like International Data Corporation (IDC). In a report last week, IDC bet global shipments will hit 173.4 million units by 2019, significantly below Euromonitor’s prediction of 305 million units in 2020

But IDC also warned of the growing gap between autonomous and passive units.

While smart wearables only account for about a third of the total market today, they are on track to surpass the less functional basic wearable category by 2018 thanks to advancements in user interface and features, explained Jitesh Ubrani, IDC’s senior research analyst.

“Smart wearables will quickly move from a smartphone accessory primarily focused on notifications to a more advanced wearable computer capable of doing more processing on its own.”

After years of delay, Mega founder Kim Dotcom faces extradition

Nearly four years after dozens of black-clad police rappelled into his New Zealand mansion and cut him from a safe room, flamboyant German tech entrepreneur and would-be hip-hop star Kim Dotcom may finally be about to face the music.

A New Zealand court hearing starting on Monday will determine whether Dotcom will face charges of copyright infringement, racketeering and money laundering in the United States related to the Megaupload file-sharing site he founded in 2005.

Well known for his hip-hop inspired photo shoots with scantily clad women and luxury cars, Dotcom had assets including computers, art works, a pink Cadillac and bank accounts holding millions of dollars frozen after the 2012 raid in the hills outside Auckland.

U.S. authorities say Dotcom and three co-accused Megaupload executives cost film studios and record companies more than $500 million and generated more than $175 million by encouraging paying users to store and share copyrighted material, such as movies and TV shows.

“The U.S. … took down the entire Megaupload site, went ahead and froze all their assets and did this with great publicity and public fanfare and did it in coordination with the very powerful force in the United States, from Hollywood,” Dotcom’s lawyer, Ira Rothken, told Reuters.

“We feel as though Kim Dotcom … will not have a fair procedural playing field because he won’t have any assets with which to mount a defence for the largest copyright case in history.”

Thumbing his nose at U.S. authorities, Dotcom set up a new cloud storage company call Mega after being bailed, but has since distanced himself from the business.

Monday’s hearing will be watched by developers like Dotcom working in the grey areas of the law prevalent at the Internet’s cutting edge for signs of how far Washington is willing to go to protect U.S. copyright holders, said Tom Pullar-Strecker, who covers technology for Fairfax Media in New Zealand.

“You just have to look at what the U.S. has achieved already through this action. Kim Dotcom’s business, Megaupload, has been destroyed really through simply taking the action,” he said. “It had an immediate chilling effect.”

Read MoreNetflix CEO: All TV will be Internet in 10-20 yrs

Megaupload accounted for about 4 percent of total traffic on the Internet in its heyday as users stored and shared files containing everything from wedding videos to Hollywood films.

Since his arrest, Dotcom, a German national and New Zealand resident, has been barred from leaving the country or venturing more than 80 km (50 miles) from his mansion, and is required to report to police twice a week.

The prosecution must prove that a crime was committed in both the United States and New Zealand in order to trigger an extradition treaty between the allies.

In an opinion submitted in support of Dotcom, Harvard law professor and copyright expert Lawrence Lessig argued that Washington’s case does not meet those requirements.

“An attempt has been made to extract facts from multiple sources and over a wide span of time, to organise a large number of otherwise disconnected facts by using systematic phraseology and to juxtapose phrases in order to create an impression of coherence and substance,” Lessig wrote.

“However, the attempt fails to reach its goals.”

A spokeswoman for the New Zealand Crown Law service declined to comment.

Apple Hacked

What it means is that Apple strictly controls what makes it into the App Store, vetting each app to make sure its security (among other features) is up to scratch.

It’s worked remarkably well so far.

Apple has sold more than 700 million iPhones to date, according to chief executive Tim Cook, yet the App Store has proven much more secure than the Android app ecosystem, because the latter doesn’t have a single quality control system.

So the news that the walled garden has a rather nasty infestation is important. Several Chinese apps were discovered to contain code that could steal user information.

Apple has removed them, but these weren’t knock-off stock or weather apps deliberately created to attack private information.

Google Maps Returns To Apple's iPhone

Apple is working to fix the App Store compromise

Instead, several blue chip apps were stealthily compromised.

WeChat, China’s answer to Whatsapp, was among them: it has around half a billion users.

Video: iOS App Store Hit By Malware

Tencent, which owns WeChat, said its initial investigation had not shown that any of its users’ information had been stolen.

Apple’s reputation for security will probably survive, even if the walls of its garden could maybe do with a lick of paint.

Given the number of iPhones Apple continues to shift, some sort of security breach was inevitable, and the Cupertino-based company has acted swiftly.

The fact that Chinese apps were infected is interesting for two reasons.

First, China is on track to become Apple’s biggest market: it sold more iPhones there than in the US, according to its latest results.

That makes iPhone users in China a bigger target, to criminals and perhaps others.

Secondly, this attack was more sophisticated than making a dodgy iPhone app, then hoping it makes it through the App Store (which has happened in isolated cases), and then that people download it.

Instead, they came up with a fake version of developer tool XCode, and tricked app developers into using it to build their apps. So the legitimate app developers were building apps from code that had already been compromised.

It’s very elegant attack, one that requires skill and resources. It’s also an approach the CIA considered, according to The Intercept, in a report based on documents supplied by Edward Snowden.

The Chinese government has long taken a keen interest in its citizens’ internet activities.

Identifying who’s behind a hack is incredibly difficult. But Apple’s success exposes it to some of the most motivated and best-funded hackers in the world, be they criminals or nation states, both in China and the rest of the world.

It might have to build those walls a little higher.

Monster gets life in prison for throwing his 4 year old daughter off a Californian cliff

seen in a court appearance in November 2003; Brown's first trial ended in a mistrial, but he was tried again and convicted in the death of his daughter

seen in a court appearance in November 2003; Brown’s first trial ended in a mistrial, but he was tried again and convicted in the death of his daughter

A man convicted of throwing his 4-year-old daughter off a cliff near Los Angeles 15 years ago was sentenced on Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for her murder, prosecutors said.

A Los Angeles County jury found Cameron Brown, a 53-year-old former airline baggage handler, guilty of first-degree murder in May. Two previous juries had been unable to reach verdicts after trials in the years since the girl’s death.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge George Lomeli sentenced Brown to a mandatory life term in prison, said Greg Risling, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Brown’s defense lawyers had maintained that his daughter, Lauren Sarene Key, accidentally fell to her death in the upscale seaside community of Rancho Palos Verdes.

But prosecutors said Brown threw the child off the cliff out of hatred for her mother, and because he was tired of paying child support.

The jury agreed Brown had murdered his daughter for financial gain, which was one of the so-called special circumstances that prosecutors charged in the case.

Addenbrooke’s Hospital Put In Special Measures

One of the country’s biggest and most prestigious NHS trusts has been deemed “inadequate” by inspectors and placed into special measures.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Addenbrooke’s Hospital, has been hampered by staff shortages while long-standing “serious” problems had been ignored, according to the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Inspectors were particularly concerned with the level of care in maternity.

High levels of nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas and used for pain relief in childbirth, were found in the Rosie Birth Centre.

This has been linked to dizziness as well as unconsciousness or death if there is a lack of oxygen.

CQC inspectors said senior managers had known about the problem for more than two years, yet they only advised staff to open windows where possible.

Equipment in the maternity unit was found to be old, while care guidelines were not always followed.

Across the entire trust, staff shortages meant there was not enough cover on wards,  including critical care, and employees were moved around to make up shortfalls.

This meant staff sometimes worked in areas where they lacked training, the CQC report said.

There was also a backlog of patients waiting for follow-up appointments, the inspectors found.

And the pressure on surgical services also meant routine operations were often cancelled and patients were waiting longer than the Government’s 18-week target for treatment.

The trust is already under scrutiny over its finances, running a deficit of £1.2m per week and set to be at least £64m in the red this year.

Several senior managers – including the trust’s chief executive and the chief finance officer of Addenbrooke’s Hospital – resigned ahead of the report being published.

CQC’s chief inspector of hospitals, Professor Sir Mike Richards, said patients had been “placed at risk” because some were looked after by staff who were not properly trained.

He added: “Staff were hard-working, passionate and caring throughout the trust, prepared to go the extra mile for patients, but having to swim upstream against the pressures they faced.”

David Wherrett, the trust’s interim chief executive, insisted patients remain in safe hands despite the damning findings.

“Patients are less likely to die here, be harmed, or catch a hospital-acquired infection than at almost any other trust in the country,” he said.

The CQC also put another trust, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, in special measures, bringing the total number to 15.

In a statement Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust insisted it had taken other action to deal with nitrous oxide as well as advising staff to open windows.

It added: “We took action earlier this year to install an extraction system, but unfortunately this has not permanently solved the problem.

“We expect the situation to be resolved by December, but meanwhile, staff have been given guidance on minimising exposure and to raise any concerns they have.”

Former peanut company CEO sentenced to 28 years for salmonella outbreak

The former owner of a peanut company in Georgia was sentenced to 28 years in prison on Monday for his role in a salmonella outbreak that killed nine people and sickened hundreds, a rare instance of jail time in a food contamination case.

Stewart Parnell, 61, who once oversaw Peanut Corporation of America, and his brother, Michael Parnell, 56, who was a food broker on behalf of the company, were convicted on federal conspiracy charges in September 2014 for knowingly shipping salmonella-tainted peanuts to customers.

Contamination at the company’s plant in Blakely, Georgia, led to one of the largest food recalls in U.S. history and forced the company into liquidation.

U.S. District Judge Louis Sands gave Michael Parnell 20 years in prison. Mary Wilkerson, 41, a former quality control manager at the plant who was found guilty of obstruction, was sentenced to five years in prison.

Stewart Parnell faced life in prison and his brother faced about 24 years.

The Justice Department described Stewart Parnell’s sentence as the largest in a food safety case.

Before the judge issued the sentences, Stewart Parnell said; “This has been a seven-year nightmare for me and my family. I’m truly, truly sorry for what’s happened.”

At Monday’s hearing in Albany, Georgia, the relatives of several victims described their suffering and asked for stiff sentences.

Jeff Almer, of Brainerd, Minnesota, said his mother, Shirley Almer, died after eating tainted peanut butter in 2009.

“My mother died a painful death from salmonella, and the look of horror on her face as she died shall always haunt me,” he said.

“I just hope they ship you all to jail,” Almer said.

During the seven-week trial last year, prosecutors said the Parnell brothers covered up the presence of salmonella in the company’s peanut products for years, even creating fake certificates showing the products were uncontaminated despite laboratory results showing otherwise.

The Parnells have said they never knowingly endangered customers, and their supporters asked a judge on Monday to show mercy.

“No one thought that the products were unsafe or could harm someone,” said Stewart Parnell’s daughter, Grey Parnell. “Dad brought them home to us. We all ate it.”

An official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention testified at the trial that the company’s peanut products sickened 714 people in 46 states, including 166 of whom were hospitalized.

91-year-old woman charged over 260,000 Auschwitz deaths

auschwitz_2851045b

The 91-year-old woman, a resident of Schleswig-Holstein, is accused of having been an SS radio operator at Auschwitz from April to July 1944.

Although her involvement in the mass killings at the camp may have been peripheral as a female member of the SS, prosecutors argue she can be held accountable because she helped the camp function.

More than 1 million people were systematically murdered at Auschwitz, the majority of them Jewish.

Germany was long accused of not doing enough to bring Holocaust perpetrators to justice.

But that changed in 2011 when John Demnjanjuk, a Soviet prisoner-of-war who volunteered as an SS guard, was found guilty of being an accessory to the murder of 27,900 people at the Sobibor concentration camp.

Since then, prosecutors have been scrambling to bring surviving concentration camp staff to justice.

A court must now decide whether to bring the case against the 91-year-old woman to trial.

Several prosecutions have collapsed after the elderly defendants were ruled too unwell to stand trial. Some have even died before their cases could be brought to court.

There is currently no indication the 91-year-old woman is unfit to stand trial, Heinz Döllel, a spokesman for prosecutors, told reporters.

A decision on the case is not expected until next year.

Of the 6,500 former SS members who served at Auschwitz and survived the war, only 50 have been convicted in Germany.

German courts long maintained that only the senior Nazi leadership could be held responsible for the crimes of the Holocaust.

Faithful Dog Guards Trapped Pal For A Week

AAerCOc

Two missing dogs have been found safe after one loyally stood guard for a week when her canine companion got trapped in the woods.

Tillie, a Setter, stayed with basset hound Phoebe after she became stuck in an old water cistern in a ravine in Washington state.

“For nearly a week Tillie stayed by her side with the exception of the few minutes of each day when she went for help,” said Vashon Island Pet Protectors, the group that rescued the dogs.

The pair were discovered after a member of the public reported a “reddish” dog had been coming onto their property for several days before darting back into the ravine.

Phoebe was found inside the cistern, perched on some rubble to stay out of the water.

The concrete walls were slightly too high for her to jump out.

The identity of their owners is not clear, but volunteer group VIPP had been searching for the dogs for a week and it called Tillie’s refusal to abandon her friend “a humbling example of the power of love”.

The heartwarming tale has so far been shared over 3,000 times from the group’s Facebook page.

Both dogs are said to be doing well.

cruel and inhumane Entrepreneur defends decision to raise price of life-saving drug by 50-fold

AAeAOiD

An entrepreneur who acquired the rights to produce a life-saving drug then increased its price more than 50-fold overnight is defending his decision with assertions that the profits will help create better medicines in future.

Medical organizations protested loudly on Sunday after a company owned by controversial former hedge fund manager Martin Shkreli raised the price of the drug Daraprim, which treats a dangerous parasitic infection, from $13.50 per pill to $750 per pill.

Shkreli’s startup company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, acquired Daraprim in August. The drug was first developed in the 1940s and is used to treat toxoplasmosis, an infection that is not common but is particularly dangerous and can be fatal when it affects babies born to mothers who have become infected or adults whose immune systems are critically compromised because they are suffering from Aids or some cancers.

The Infectious Diseases Society of America and the HIV Medicine Association sent a joint, open letter to Turing Pharmaceuticals earlier in September, complaining that the sudden, steep price increase for Daraprim was “unjustifiable for the medically-vulnerable patient population” and also that it was “unsustainable for the health care system”, according to the New York Times.

On Monday, Shkreli said: “We need to turn a profit on the drug.” He defended the decision by telling Bloomberg News that newer versions of the drug needed to be developed and his was the first company “to really focus on this product” for decades and that such research was extremely expensive.

He also promised that: “If you cannot afford the drug we will give it away for free.” Shkreli also said the drug was currently underpriced.

But the move to inflate the price of Daraprim, which is the generic name for pyrimethamine and was originally developed in the 1940s by corporate elements of the pharmaceutical giant now known as GlaxoSmithKline, has set off ripples of concern across the medical community.

Doctors may have to provide less effective but cheaper alternatives, said Judith Aberg, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai hospital in New York.

“What is it that they are doing differently that has led to this dramatic increase?” she asked.

It is not uncommon for companies to use inventive interpretations of government regulations and loopholes in the law to corner the market for certain drugs, especially ones that were developed a long time ago and have only a limited market, then relaunch them at higher prices they believe the market will tolerate.

Shkreli has attracted controversy in the past. Consumer rights group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew) has previously called for an investigation of Shkreli’s interactions with the Food and Drug Administration.

Jihadists defecting from ISIS after failed promises of heroism and luxury cars!!!

AAeAjes

Jihadists are defecting from Isil after their “Islamist utopia” of luxury cars and “heroism” never materialised.

Others have fled the terror group because of fears they were to be used as “cannon fodder” or suicide bombers.

Having to carry out “dull duties” and a lack of frontline action and was also blamed by some for them leaving, a report has found.

At least 58 people have left the group since January last year but the true figure is likely to be far higher, the research by International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR) concluded.

That figure is likely to be just a fraction of “those disillusioned, ready to defect, and or willing to go public”, it found.

Some of those who left were disappointed by the “quality of life” and were “typically among the ones who had joined the group for material and ‘selfish’ reasons, and quickly realized that none of the luxury goods and cars that they had been promised would materialize”.

Power shortages and a lack of basic goods was also blamed while two said they left after hearing they were to be used as suicide bombers.

“They wanted to first experience fighting and get an opportunity to enjoy the spoils of war before going on their final mission,” the report said.

For others their experience of combat “failed to meet their expectations of action and heroism”.

The level of brutality against fellow Muslims and in-fighting were also raised as reasons for leaving.

The report said the defections had been “sufficiently frequent to shatter IS’s image as a united, cohesive and ideologically committed organisation”.

It added: “They demonstrate that IS is not the jihadist utopia that the group’s videos promise; and that many of its own fighters have deep concerns about the group’s strategy and tactics.”

It suggested the pace of public defections was increasing with six in ten cases reported this year and a third in the three months to August.

One of the defectors is British widow Shukee Begum who was left stranded in Turkey with her five young children after fleeing Isil when her husband was killed fighting.

But defecting from the group was “complex and dangerous”, with those who succeed in fleeing the group’s territory fearing reprisals or prosecution once they return to their home country, the study said.

It called on governments to do more to remove obstacles that prevent defectors from speaking up, saying their testimony could be help prevent potential new recruits from being radicalised.

The report stressed it “does not attempt to excuse, justify or glorify people’s decision to join IS”, adding that some are “likely to have committed crimes”.

However, it said: “They joined the most violent and totalitarian organisation of our age, yet they have also become its victims, and their stories can be used as potentially powerful tools in the fight against it.”

Emily Blunt: Girl on the Train ‘to stay British’

_85667817_emilyblunt-getty

Emily Blunt says her character in the film adaptation of The Girl on the Train will remain British – even though the action has moved to New York.

Blunt will play the girl of the title – an alcoholic divorcee who fantasises about a couple she sees from her train.

The film, directed by The Help’s Tate Taylor, is set for release in 2016.

Blunt told the BBC: “It’s moved to New York but I’m going to play her as British, that was a decision Tate and I made recently.”

The star, who was in London to promote her latest film, Sicario, said she wanted to make the role of Rachel her own.

“I try not to get weighed down with what people are going to think of me,” she said. “I’m going to have my own take on it.”

Paula Hawkins’ psychological thriller made publishing history earlier this year when it sat at the top of the hardback fiction charts for 20 weeks in a row.

It tells the story of a woman’s disappearance seen from the point of view of three women.

Hawkins has said the story was inspired by her own commute in London when she enjoyed looking into people’s houses from the train.

“I started idly daydreaming about what I would do if I saw something shocking or surprising,” she said in a BBC interview when the book was published in January.

Blunt, who was born in Britain, has made headlines over the past week after she made an “innocuous joke” about becoming an American citizen in August.

Promoting Sicario at the Toronto film festival, the actress told The Hollywood Reporter: “I became an American citizen recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate and I thought, ‘this was a terrible mistake. What have I done?'”

Her remarks drew the ire of some conservative commentators and Blunt apologised on NBC’s Today programme on Thursday, saying: “It was so not the intention to hurt anybody or cause any offence, so I really apologise to those that I caused offence to.”

Speaking on Monday, Blunt said: “It was an incredibly innocuous joke in a light handed way, so the heavy-handed reaction was a bit surprising to me.”

Sicario sees the actress play an FBI agent who is enlisted by an elite force to tackle the drugs trade on the US-Mexico border.

Talking about her next role, Blunt joked that her research for The Girl on the Train involved “lots of rosé!”

Thirteen Feared Dead After Ferry Collides With Refugee Boat

AAeyTzp

At least 13 refugees, among them four children, lost their lives after their dinghy collided with a ferry off the coast of Turkey on Sunday as they attempted to reach Europe, according to the Turkish coastguard.

The boat was on its way to the Greek island of Lesbos having travelled from the northwestern Turkish port of Canakkale when the incident happened, reports AFP news agency. Turkey sent a helicopter and six rescue boats to the area to assist with the rescue operation.

Eight people have been rescued, yet some reports say four of the dead were children, according to the BBC. It is believed 46 people in total were on board the dinghy.

One survivor who gave his name as Haseen told AFP: “It was dark, we saw the ship bearing down on us. We tried to signal with flashlights and cell phones but they did not see us.”

“We lost the children. We could not see them in the dark,” he continued.

The Greek coastguard has said it had rescued 22 people from a boat that sank off Lesbos, in what was suspected to be the same incident.

On Saturday, a five-year-old girl died and 13 people were feared missing after their boat also sank off Lesbos, according to the BBC.

Husband and wife die after there house exploded

AAexIa8

Two people killed in an explosion and house fire in Derbyshire were a husband and wife who lived at the property, police have said.

Fire crews found two bodies in an upstairs bedroom after initially being prevented from entering the couple’s home in Riddings, near Alfreton, by the dangerous state of the building.

The families of the victims – named locally as 50-year-old Simon Saxton-Cooper and his wife Shelley, 45 – have been informed of the deaths.

Police are not treating the blaze as suspicious and are attempting to establish whether an explosion or fire reduced parts of the house to rubble.

After the blaze it emerged that a fireman who lived nearby, an off-duty policeman and a neighbour made efforts to reach the couple before the arrival of three fire appliances.

East Midlands Airport firefighter Paul Archer, who lives in an adjoining street, told how he climbed the stairs of the blazing house to search for casualties but was beaten back by intense heat.

Mr Archer, 48, said: “It didn’t sound like a massive explosion – it sounded like something big had been dropped.”

The father-of-two put on old fire-fighting equipment stored in his garage, including a tunic, a flash-hood and fire-retardant gloves, after the blast at 7.30am.

“The flames started straight away,” he said. “One of the neighbours had got a key and they opened the back door. I made my way in shouting ‘Can you hear me?’ and the downstairs was really clear.

“I got to the bottom of the stairs, shouting again, and made my way up to the top of the stairs.

“By this time the house was pretty well ablaze – the front bedroom door was on fire but I was shouting ‘hello, can anyone hear me?'”

Mr Archer also saw flames in a rear bedroom and feared the roof might cave in, eventually leaving the house via the front door as he heard the sirens’ of the first fire appliances to arrive.

Speaking after the gas supply was isolated and supports were used to prop up the house, allowing fire crews to locate the bodies, Chief Inspector Steve Pont described the deaths as an “awful tragedy” and offered his sympathies to the victims’ relatives.

The senior officer said: “The fire service attended and found the house ablaze.

“They extinguished the flames and then found that the house was not safe enough to enter.

“We’ve been able to make the house safe and search the property and I can confirm that unfortunately there are two bodies.

“We do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances, however we are in the very early stages of our investigation.”

Asked to comment on the possible cause of the fire, Mr Pont said: “There were initial reports of an explosion.

“There is substantial damage to the house. We can’t say at the moment whether that’s due to an explosion or the fire.”

Algerian hacker: Hero or hoodlum?

25dded4c8ba348a8a874e8ccc2992a38_18

Depending on who you ask, Hamza Bendelladj is either a Robin Hood-esque hero or a cyber-age hoodlum.

The 27-year-old Algerian computer science graduate will be sentenced on Tuesday in a US court for using a computer virus to steal money from more than 200 American banks and financial institutions. He then reportedly gave millions of dollars to Palestinian charities.

Bendelladj, who is alleged to be the co-creator of a banking trojan horse called SpyEye, was indicted in absentia by US authorities in 2011. The programme – a malware toolkit that saw its popularity peak between 2009 and 2011 – is believed to have infected more than 1.4 million computers in the US and elsewhere, according to Wired, a San Francisco-based technology magazine. The software enabled users to steal login information for online financial accounts, which they then pillaged.

On Tuesday, Bendelladj, who hails from Tizi Ouzou in Algeria, will be sentenced in court in the US state of Georgia. He has already pleaded guilty and faces a prison sentence of more than 65 years and up to $14m in fines, according to the US Department of Justice.

RELATED: ‘Professional hacking’ company suffers data breach

It took two years for Bendelladj, known in the online world as Bx1, to be apprehended. Authorities in Thailand arrested him on their soil and extradited him to the US in 2013. He was dubbed the “happy hacker” because he was photographed smiling as he was taken into custody at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport.

American law enforcement officers identified Bendelladj when he allegedly sold a copy of the SpyEye virus to an undercover officer for $8,500.

Bendelladj‘s alleged criminal reach extended across international borders, directly into victims’ homes,” said US attorney Sally Quillian Yates, on May 3, 2013, on the same day Bendelladj‘s 23-count indictment was revealed. It included charges related to wire, bank, and computer fraud.

In a cyber-netherworld, he allegedly commercialised the wholesale theft of financial and personal information through this virus, which he sold to other cyber-criminals.

Sally Quillian Yates, US attorney

“In a cyber-netherworld, he allegedly commercialised the wholesale theft of financial and personal information through this virus, which he sold to other cyber-criminals,” Yates said.

According to court documents, between 2009 and 2011, Bendelladjand others developed, marketed and sold various versions of the SpyEye virus to cyber-criminals, which allowed them to obtain passwords, usernames and credit card information. US authorities say he mostly advertised SpyEye on a computer hacking forum known as Darkode.

US authorities say Bendelladj and other SpyEye users were responsible for building a huge network, or “botnet”, of infected computers that they regularly hijacked for financial and personal information. Bendelladj is also accused of using the information gathered to steal money from banks.

While the court documents make no references as to how the cash was spent, several reports online claimed that Bendelladj used the money to fund various Palestinian charities – information that made him a hero in the eyes of many.

Following his extradition, rumours began to circulate online that Bendelladj was facing the death penalty for his crimes, and his supporters began a campaign asking for his life to be spared. In August, a user writing under the Twitter handle @Hassan_JBr wrote: “Algerian hero is 1/10 most dangerous hackers. Hacked 217 banks, sent $280,000,000 to Palestine. His sentence? death.” His message garnered more than 4,500 re-tweets.

US authorities refuted the widely publicised claims; even the US ambassador to Algeria, Joan Polaschik, tweeted in French that “computer crimes are not capital [ones] and are not punishable by the death penalty”.

Since Bendellaj’s incarceration, US law enforcement officers said they have dismantled Darkode and have filed criminal charges against a dozen individuals associated with the forum.

“This is a milestone in our efforts to shut down criminals’ ability to buy, sell, and trade malware, botnets, and personally identifiable information used to steal from US citizens and individuals around the world,” said FBI Deputy Director Mark Giuliano.

Despite his admission of guilt, Bendellaj’s supporters continue to hack various websites across the world, including, of late, Air France and a Virginia-based university, calling for his release using the hashtags #FreeHamzaBendellaj and #FreePalestine.

According to Martin Libicki, the author of Cyberdeterrence and Cyberwar, the fight against online hackers such as Bendelladj will be a long one.

“Cybercrime is still an attractive proposition for someone who is clever and has a tolerance for [ignoring] risk,” he told Al Jazeera. “In the long run, bringing the losses to cybercrime down to tolerable levels will have to depend on provisions that are made in the architecture of computing and the architecture of banking [and other money-handling industries].”

Nakuru based journalist covering teachers strike beaten by police, locked up

dnnakurutv2109nnv

A journalist working in Nakuru is nursing injuries after he was beaten by police officers attached to a private school.

Mr Evans Asiba, a Royal Media Services camera person, had gone to the school to cover a story on the ongoing teachers’ strike when he was attacked.

He suffered injuries on the head and hands.

He was locked up at the Bondeni Police Station for more than two hours and his camera was confiscated at the police station where he was also forced to record a statement.

Mr Asiba said he was conducting a spot check in connection to the teacher’s strike that has led to government’s decision to shut down private and public schools.

“The security guard on duty barred me from accessing the institution claiming he was acting on instructions from the school head teacher and I only filmed the school signboard,” he said.

EXECUTING THEIR DUTY

It was at this point that the management of Lions Primary School instructed the officers to arrest Mr Asiba and take away his camera.

The School head teacher Mr Abraham Lubanga said the police were executing their duty.

Mr Lubanga said the incident was not regrettable since the instructions issued to the security team on strangers was straight-forward.

“He wanted to know if the school had obeyed the president’s directive but I clearly told him it was a non-issue to us,” he said.

A boda boda operator who witnessed the incident said Mr Asiba was attacked at the school gate by police and private security guards.

“I saw the police officers and the watchmen drag him on the tarmac and kick him on the head,” said the motorcyclist who sought for anonymity.

At the station, he was charged with assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and causing disturbance at a school.

Rift Valley Provincial regional Police Co-ordinator Mr Gideon Amala said he was aware about the arrest but refused to comment on it.

Boko Haram releases new ‘Shekau audio’ amid death claims

BOK+PIC

Boko Haram released a new audio message today of its elusive leader Abubakar Shekau to dispute Nigeria’s claim that the insurgents were on the verge of defeat.

The 25-minute recording in Hausa and Arabic released on social media, with the voice purporting to be that of Shekau, says: “The military lied that they have confiscated our arms, that we have been chased out of our territories, that we are in disarray.

“We are alive, I am alive, this is my voice, more audible than it was before. This is Shekau. Buhari is a liar and he is deceiving you,” says the recording, referring to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shekau had been declared dead by the soldiers before, only for Boko Haram to promptly release videos and audio messages to dispel the notion.

LEADER IS ALIVE

Still, the jihadist group has lately not been able to conclusively prove with video evidence that is not old footage that their leader is alive.

The Nigerian military has in the past weeks insisted that the offensive against Boko Haram was scoring dramatic results and that the terrorists were fleeing their camps and abandoning their vehicles, flags and food supplies across various fronts in northeast Nigeria.

Nonetheless, there is growing evidence that Boko Haram has been on the retreat in the face of the combined assault by Nigerian, Chadian, Nigerien and Cameroonian forces who have formed an armed alliance to fight the jihadist group.

Not only is this weakness reflected in the fact that the terrorists have lately resorted to suicide bombings, the Nigerian army has also in recent times successfully freed many women and children whom the group abducts.

GIVE US THREE MONTHS
Additionally, the military has also recovered more territory in areas of the northeast that were previously no-go zones for the soldiers.

Colonel Sani Usman, acting director of army public relations, has assured the nation that the insurgency will be brought to an end before the three-month deadline given by President Buhari.

Shekau added: “Buhari, you once claimed that you will crush us in three months. How can you crush us?” He directly refers to IS group leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, to whom he says he is “loyal and subservient”.

He also namechecks IS spokesman Abu-Mohammed al-Adnani and sends “greetings to the faithful in Yemen”, where there is also an IS “affiliate”.

There was no indication of where or when the recording was made but it appears to have have been in recent days

WWE Legend Sting injured at Night of Champions 2015

sting3article

Pro wrestlers get hurt a lot. But something looked different about the injuries sustained by WCW legend Sting during Sunday night’s WWE “Night of Champion” pay-per-view. While the 56-year-old went on with the show, eventually losing a title match to 29-year-old Seth Rollins, he hobbled and, at times, looked confused while executing routine moves.

But while reports circle the Internet that the injuries, which looked to affect his neck, back and possibly head, were serious enough to end the longtime pro’s career, the wrestler himself is “optimistic ” that he’ll make a full recovery.

“Sting is undergoing treatment for the injuries he sustained in last night’s match with Seth Rollins,” his manager Steve Martinez posted to Sting’sofficial Facebook page late Monday afternoon. “Doctors will continue to evaluate his condition, but he is a man of remarkable health and resiliency, especially at his age and with all he’s endured throughout his stellar career. Therefore, we are optimistic he will have a speedy recovery and return to full health soon.”

Neither Martinez nor WWE would elaborate on the exact injuries Sting suffered. Martinez did say, however, that “the greatest damage to his body took place before the match was over.”

Judging from video of the match, it’s likely that Sting suffered injuries at least twice during the match. The first came when Rollins threw Sting through an announcers’ table and it appeared Sting hit his head on one of the hard plastic monitors on the landing.

Britons Under House Arrest After ‘Burglar’ Dies

AAeyVBh

A British man and his son have been put under house arrest after a suspected burglar died at their villa in Portugal, Sky sources say.

Sky’s Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said the pair caught the suspect during an apparent break-in, restrained him and called the police in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man died after being put in a choke-hold at the villa between Vilamoura and Quarteira on the Algarve, according to reports.

It is thought the suspect was still alive when police first arrived at the scene.

The father lives at the property with his wife and son and the couple are both believed to be aged in their 50s.

The man and his son, who is in his 20s, are believed to have sustained minor injuries and have been questioned by police but not arrested.

However, the pair have been put under house arrest which means if they want to leave the neighbourhood they have to inform the Portuguese authorities.

AAeyYHX

Now it is up to the public prosecutor to decide if legal action is brought.

Brunt said: “It transpires that while they (the police) were there the man died, or was at least declared dead.

“Police were apparently in the process of handcuffing him when it was established the man had died.”

Portuguese media are reporting the man was found with some of the family’s possessions in his pockets, including the keys to their silver Jaguar.

Brunt said the house appears to be owned by a retired businessman and his family from East London.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to determine the exact cause of the man’s death.

Under Portuguese law, self-defence is allowed for people to protect their property.

Nevertheless, it must be proportional to the danger that people at the property are under.

Find out how these construction workers from New Delhi india managed to bury this man alive into the freshly layed road without realizing!!

NEW DELHI:  A man who slipped and fell into a pit on his way home was buried alive on Friday as a road was constructed over him in Katni in Madhya Pradesh.

The body of 45-year-old Latori Lal was found when villagers spotted his shirt sticking out of a freshly laid patch of road.

It appeared that Latori was drunk when he fell into the pit. Road workers filled the crater with tar and it was levelled with a roller without anyone noticing.

Angry villagers targeted the road workers and blocked traffic with protests as the crushed body was taken out.

The police say Latori Lal and his wife had gone out and after a fight, he came back alone at around 8 pm. When his wife returned an hour later, she found the house locked and no sign of Latori.

Neighbours and other villagers brought torches and joined her in searching for him.

When Latori Lal’s shirt was spotted, and people realized he had been crushed by a road roller, they rushed to the police station demanding action against the workers.

The police and the administration assured that Latori’s family would be compensated.

A driver and a road worker have been arrested.

Flagged Problems in 2012 Bone Samples, Says Doctor in Sheena Bora Case

sheena-bora_650x400_41440735025

MUMBAI:  The alleged lapses by the Raigad police in the Sheena Bora murder investigation have been compounded by the charge that the bone samples found in 2012 do not match the ones recently exhumed.

Sheena Bora, 24, was killed allegedly by her mother, media executive Indrani Mukerjea, step-father Sanjeev Khanna, and a driver inside a car in April 2012, in Mumbai. The body was allegedly taken to the forests of Raigad and burnt.

Doctors at Nair hospital who conducted the forensic tests now say that samples sent in 2012 from a body recovered in the forest was not Sheena Bora’s. Also, there were discrepancies in the sample and their description.

For example, a bone called a clavicle, though mentioned in the list, was not part of the sample. Though the doctors pointed this out at the time in their report, the police never collected it then.

“A lot bodies that are dumped there, so it may belong to a different person… the Pen police station personnel had brought the bones,” said the Dean of Mumbai’s JJ Hospital, Dr T P Lahane. A team at JJ Hospital had studied the samples in 2012 and filed a report.

The discovery is not expected to affect the medico-legal case, said Dr Lahane.

The remains found by the Mumbai police as per the directions of an accused in the case – Indrani Mukerjea’s driver — have been identified as Sheena Bora’s following forensic examination. But had the 2012 bone samples also matched, it could have been used as added evidence, he added.

The discrepancy, however, adds to the charges of the mishandling of the case by the Raigad police, who had tagged it as an unclaimed body and abandoned the case.

Last week, a police inspector, Subhash Mirge claimed that after the body was found in 2012, he was asked not to file a case by a senior officer. It is possible that had a case been filed, the murder would not have gone undetected for three years.

Sources, meanwhile, told NDTV that the Mumbai Police officers who cracked the case are upset with the government’s decision to order a CBI probe. But Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the case involves financial transaction outside the country and “it is logical for the CBI to look into it”.

Little Girl is Worried That Daddy Will Embarrass Her at a Wedding

Two weeks ago, this little girl explained to her father why she wasn’t a ‘princess’ in a video that’s been watched a million times since being posted on September 7. Now, JoJo is telling off her dad again, this time at a wedding.

In a video posted on YouTube on September 14, she is trying to explain to her dad how weddings work and what not to do while she’s walking down the aisle as a flower girl. For instance, “You can’t call my name while I am going to be walking down the aisle. No one can call us.”

“What if I just say princess?,” asks daddy who just doesn’t seem to get it.

Poor long-suffering JoJo. “Dad, you don’t understand weddings at all,” she sighs.

Stop giving her a hard time, daddy!

Watch JoJo trying to get her dad not to embarrass her at the wedding:

Burkina Faso coup leader to ‘hand over power’

untitled-article-1442702767

Burkina Faso’s coup leader has apologized to the nation and said that he would hand over power to a civilian transitional government.

The statement issued by General Gilbert Diendere to journalists in Burkina Faso comes just as the military threatened on Monday to forcibly disarm presidential guard members led by him, who were responsible for last week’s coup ahead of October 11 polls.

Diendere said he would release the interim prime minister who has been under house arrest since the coup.

The heads of the country’s military said troops would be converging on the capital of Ouagadougou to try to disarm the coup government without bloodshed.

“All the national armed forces are converging on Ouagadougou with the sole aim of disarming the presidential guard without any bloodshed,” a military statement said.

“The army say their goal is to protect the public from the presidential guard. The presidential guard last week shot at the population injuring dozens,” Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque, reporting from Ouagadougou, said.

Several people have been killed and dozens others injured during the subsequent demonstrations against the coup.

Demonstrators have been protesting against a proposed compromise solution to the country’s deepening political crisis. The protesters say that the plan is too lenient on the military government.

Regional mediators spent the weekend trying to broker the compromise between the military government that seized power in a coup last week and other politicians in the West African country.

They announced a plan late on Sunday that calls for new elections by the end of November. However, Diendere did not attend the news conference where the draft agreement was read aloud.

‘Deep-rooted problems’

Interim President Michel Kafando voiced reservations about the proposal in a radio interview on Monday, saying: “I have reservations about this draft agreement” which leaves “deep-rooted problems” without solutions.”

In a concession to Diendere and his supporters, the plan would allow loyalists of the former longtime president to take part in the vote.

One of the chief reasons cited for the coup was that an electoral code approved earlier this year banned members of the former ruling party from running for office.

Under that plan, Diendere would step aside and the interim president he overthrew would be reinstalled until the vote.

The draft plan will go before the West African regional bloc known as the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, in Nigeria on Tuesday.

Blaise Compaore served as president for 27 years, and his bid to further extend his rule prompted massive street protests and eventually led to his overthrow.

Kenya schools shut over teachers’ pay dispute

https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/r20150917/r20110914/abg.js// DNEldStrike1809a

With little or no learning going on in public schools across the country as a result of the teacher’s strike, the government has ordered that all public and private schools be closed starting Monday.

However, candidates waiting to sit their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will remain in school, the Education ministry said on Friday.

In a circular sent to education officials, Education Secretary Leah Rotich said the ministry had revised the school term dates for private and public schools.

The circular said that Standard One to Standard Seven pupils and Form One to Form Three students would go home, as there was no learning going on since the start of the strike.

“The revision of the time dates for primary and secondary schools has been necessitated by the fact that very little or no learning has been going in most of these institutions in the last three weeks with the exception of the examination classes,” said Ms Rotich.

The Education secretary has asked the teachers to continue assisting the 2015 examination candidates.

“It is expected that TSC teachers who are in school and BOM teachers will continue to teach and prepare KCPE and KCSE candidates, (and) those already engaged in Knec examination management will also be expected to perform their duties as per the Knec Act 2012,” said Ms Rotich.

FEES REFUNDS

The education boss, however, did not say whether school fees parents have already paid to private schools for the third term would be refunded.

Last year, when schools lost three weeks due to a strike, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang asked parents to work with their specific schools to have the money refunded or be forwarded to the next term.

On Friday, the Kenya National Examinations Council launched this year’s national examination and gave the dates and the numbers of those scheduled to sit the tests.

(READ: 1.4m candidates to sit for national exams)

Kenya National Examinations Council Secretary Joseph Kivilu said they have registered 937,467 KCPE and 525,802 KCSE candidates.

He added that the KCPE examination would commence on November 10 and end on November 12, whereas KCSE theory papers would start on October 12.

Because of the strike, some schools had started sending students home as some had become unruly.

The Education secretary said that learners being left idle under the care of a small number of teachers had resulted in tension building up among them.

“Some of the incidences of insecurity in schools had been reported by the heads of institutions and field officers during the said period,” said Ms Rotich.

He added that the Ministry of Education needed to safeguard the security of learners and staff and school property.

CABINET STAND

Later in the day, the Cabinet directed school management boards to cary forward fees to new term dates.
The Cabinet also said that the Kenya National Examinations Council continue with preparation of the 2015 KCPE and KCSE exams as scheduled.
In a statement send to newsrooms, the ministry of education was told to ‘revise the term dates for all primary and secondary schools under its jurisdiction, and to communicate new dates in due course.’
However the statement said technical training institutes, primary and diploma teacher-training colleges are not affected by this directive.
Cabinet is committed to a speedy resolution of this matter and urges all relevant constitutional bodies to demonstrate the same commitment to allow our children to go back to school.
“The matter of teachers’ salaries and remuneration has been outstanding for nearly twenty years, resulting in a teachers’ strike almost every year. This matter cannot continue to disrupt the education of our children. Hard decisions must be made to bring it to an end, once and for all,” said the statement.

Violence breaks out ahead of Guinea election

Cellou-Dalein-DialloSeveral people were wounded as supporters of rival political factions clashed in northern Guinea, witnesses said Monday, as tension mounts in the race to elect a new president.

Activists backing opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo and supporters of President Alpha Conde threw stones at each other in the town of Koundara on Sunday, a local police officer said, in the first violence of the campaign.

“The tension had been noticeable since Saturday, when the opposition activists announced an electoral campaign carnival through the city, which the government supporters didn’t want,” said the source, putting the wounded at 17.

The officer said public and private property was ransacked, including shops owned by traders from the Fulani ethnic group, traditional Diallo loyalists.

All local opposition leaders were arrested and detained in a military camp by the police on the advice of the majority activists”, Hadja Fatoumata Binta Diallo, a lawmaker from Diallo’s Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea party, told AFP.

Koundara prefect Sana Sanoussi said police had made around 15 arrests, although the opposition estimated the figure at nearer 30.

In Kankan — a town in Conde’s eastern support base — government supporters threw stones to prevent a meeting arranged by Sidya Toure, another candidate and former premier, he said.

“This is the last time I’m going to let them stop me holding a campaign meeting in a public place,” Toure told a private radio station.

“Kankan is the town of my in-laws. I do not want to create problems here. If this continues, we will prevent government meetings everywhere in Basse Guinee (Lower Guinea), my stronghold,” Toure told a private radio station.

Eight contenders including Conde, Diallo and Toure have been approved as candidates for Guinea’s second democratic presidential election on October 11.

The ruling party and opposition last month sealed a deal on the organisation of the vote, raising hopes for a peaceful election, but the opposition parties say Conde has reneged on the deal.

Diallo accused Conde last week of making decisions “unilaterally” with election commission chief Bakary Fofana, in “flagrant violation” of the law.

We are so concerned that we are questioning whether we should even continue to participate in this process,” he said.

An observation mission of the European Union began the deployment last week of its first 20 of an eventual 70 observers whole will oversee the elections throughout the country.

The surprise album Drake just released was never supposed to happen

On Sunday, Drake released a joint mixtape with rapper Future called “What a Time To Be Alive.”

The collaboration was officially announced just one day before the tape dropped.

The project came as a surprise to most people because Drake’s highly anticipated solo album, “Views From The 6,” is due out later this year, and Future just released an album in July.

Drake also released a mixtape in February called “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.”

On Apple’s Beats 1 radio, the station that premiered the album on Sunday, Drake told listeners how it came together, basically saying the mixtape was an accident.

“I went to Atlanta for six days a couple weeks ago with the hopes of doing some songs with Future, and when you get around Future, it’s like a vortex,” Drake said. “That guy can outwork anybody right now.”

He added, “It’s tough to see someone do four, five songs in one night and not try to match it.”

The mixtape has 11 tracks, an impressive number of songs to put together in just a few days.

Drake also mentioned how he chose the title for his new, spontaneous album. When he realized his trip to Atlanta would produce a collaborative effort with Future, Drake told writer and friend Ernest Baker about the project. Baker replied, “What a time to be alive,” and that’s how Drake named it.

What a time to be alive indeed. You can listen to the full album on Apple Music.

Last week, a GIF of how the Miss America winners’ body types have evolved from 1921 to now went viral.

But the team that put it together — educational website PsychGuides.com— also made a chart that shows how disconnected the Miss America competition is with the real America.

PsychGuides.com found that the only decades when the average U.S. woman and the Miss America winners fell in the same range were in the 1940s and ‘50s. The graph shows that over the years, Miss America has gotten thinner while the average American woman in her 20s has only gotten heavier.

“Miss America represents the highest ideals. She is a real combination of beauty, grace, and intelligence, artistic and refined,” the official Miss America website states. “She is a type which the American girl might well emulate.”

But this strong focus on beauty and thinness can be damaging to women who don’t fit the ideal, according to PsychGuides.com, and even lead to eating disorders as young girls strive to become society’s “perfect woman.”

The team added that these images of women’s bodies “can perpetuate an unrealistic expectation for the average female’s body.”

It’s not the first criticism of the pageant, which was protested in the ‘60s and draws numerous op-eds today questioning why the $50,000 scholarship competition still emphasizes a bikini-focused swimsuit segment where only the contestants’ bodies are judged.

And the evolving standards for contestants’ body types as well as the PsychGuides.comgraph also tell the story of how being thin has become the ideal in America while at the same time fewer and fewer women are able to meet that criteria.

Studies have found that wealth and success are associated with being thin. Not only doskinny women get paid more, but conventionally attractive people are also hired sooner and get promotions more quickly. And to be thought of as conventionally attractive as a woman, it’s paramount that you’re thin.

Protect yourself on Facebook!

Facebook has over 1.49 billion monthly active users, with people in the US spending astaggering 27 hours on the social networking site every month.

The company thinks that that kind of sky-high usage and engagement gives it certain responsibilities.

“Because people interact with Facebook so often, we’re spending a lot of time thinking about how we can play a role in helping increase security literacy overall across the internet,” Facebook security product manager Melissa Luu-Van tells Business Insider.

The company recently released a new “Security Check-up” featurefor users and continues to try to find ways to get people thinking about security, Luu-Van says. In some emerging markets in particular, Facebook could be people’s first on-ramp to the internet, through its Internet.org efforts.

“We want to help people develop that muscle memory and start thinking about security in a different way,” she says. “Good security practices are important for all your accounts and services.”

Luu-Van — who says that Facebook is trying to spread the gospel that good security is proactive versus reactive —outlined five things principals that internet users should be thinking about whenever they sign up for a new internet service:

1. Always use good password practices

On the one hand, duh.

On the other, picking a strong, unique password sounds obvious, but people are notoriously pretty bad at it.

Although memorizing different passwords for all your account feels like a big hassle, having the same one for multiple accounts is needlessly dangerous.

Luu-Van says she recommends thinking of fairly long passwords that wouldn’t be obvious to anyone but you, or using a password manger (here are a few options). So, no “password” as your password please.

2. Login approvals — also called two-factor authentication — is a must

“You should always add this extra layer of protection to your account,” Luu-Van says.

Two-step verification is a way for websites to confirm that you are who you say you are when you try to log in, usually through a code that gets texted to you.

Here’s how to set it up for Facebook, Google, Microsoft products, and more.

3. Know what sort of “permissions” you’re giving apps

You’re probably familiar with that box that shows up whenever you download a new app, asking you to give it access to parts of your phone or information on the account your using to sign in with (for example, if you login with your Facebook account). You should actually pay attention to it.

You should routinely check what you’re giving different apps access to, deleting permissions for ones that you don’t use anymore and making sure that your comfortable with how your data is being taken, by whom.

“We’re hoping that people will become more accustomed with reviewing the information they share with apps,” Luu-Van says.

4. Set up “trusted contacts” in case you do get locked out of your account

Instead of writing your password down somewhere so you don’t forget it (since any physical or digital documentation could fall into the wrong hands!), you should set up a trusted contact who can help you if you’re in a bind. Many services now allow you to set a back-up email or phone number to send special codes to that you can use if you’re locked out. That contact doesn’t actually get your password: Just a code to help you reset yours.

“Forgetting your password happens to the best of us, from time-to-time,” Luu-Van says. “The bigger picture here is being really proactive about making sure that you can get back into your account in case something happens.”

5. Make sure you have a legacy contact

This is the most morbid of Luu-Van’s tips, but no less important than the other ones: You should make sure that there is someone ready to take care of your digital accounts when you die.

“This stuff is super important to consider, even if it’s not something you want to be thinking about day-to-day,” Luu-Van says. “Do you want someone to be able to access these things and manage them on your behalf? You need to set up a way for someone to take care of your affairs if something happens to you.”

Apple Releases watchOS 2

Apple just released the final version of watchOS 2. The updated operating system is now available to download for everyone. It is available as an over-the-air update. You may not see the update right away as it takes a few minutes to hit all the servers. Apple may also be using a queue system to ensure speedy downloads.

As a reminder, Apple initially planned to release watchOS 2 on September 16. But the company had to delay the release at the last minute due to an unexpected bug.

“We have discovered a bug in development of watchOS 2 that is taking a bit longer to fix than we expected,” an Apple spokesperson told TechCrunch at the time. “We will not release watchOS 2 today but will shortly.” But now everything is fixed.

The updated operating system adds a handful of features just five months after Apple launched the Apple Watch. In particular, app developers can now build native apps and take advantage of all the sensors with watchOS 2. Other features include transit directions, expanded Siri support, a few new watch faces, third-party complications, a night stand mode, the ability to go forward in time to check the weather, appointments and more. Read more in our full review.

Here’s how you can update to watchOS 2. Open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to ‘General’ then ‘Software Update.’ Apple should then prompt you to update.

There’s no reason why you shouldn’t update to watchOS 2. In many ways, it feels like the Apple Watch was in beta, and watchOS 2 is the final version of Apple’s vision. Things load faster, developers are going to take advantage of the new features and everything is more reliable.

Boy left brain damaged after Great Ormond Street ‘ignored advice of his medical scientist mother

Elijah Ali© Other Elijah Ali

An 11-year old boy has been left brain damaged after a leading hospital ignored the advice of his medical scientist mother, she claims.

Gabrielle Ali says her son’s disabilities – which mean he cannot walk or talk – are the result of a series of blunders by Great Ormond Street.

After her son developed a complication following routine surgery at the world famous hospital, she was told to take son Elijah to her local hospital.

There, under direction of Great Ormond Street, Accident & Emergency doctors gave him a blood thinner called heparin that Miss Ali claims put Elijah into cardiac arrest.

She knew the blood thinner would damage her son but pleas to doctors were ignored. It was 45 minutes before the resuscitation team managed to restart her child’s heart.

After being starved of oxygen for so long, Elijah suffered serious brain damage and can no longer walk or talk.

Ms Ali, 31, said: “From my scientific knowledge I knew it wasn’t safe to give heparin to my son as his haemoglobin – red blood cell level – was so low.

“The lowest safe level is around 84. Elijah’s was off the scale at 50. He desperately needed a blood transfusion first.

“I was really anxious that heparin would thin the blood around Elijah’s body too much and put his vital organs at risk.”

“I argued with doctors at Watford General Hospital where I was told to take him by Great Ormond Street. But they said they were acting on the instructions of Great Ormond Street. They threatened legal action if I tried to remove him from the hospital.”

As she tried to convince doctors at Watford and – via the telephone – Great Ormond Street, her petrified son asked her: “Mum, are they trying to kill me?” she said.

Within seconds of heparin being infused into a vein Elijah went into cardiac arrest.

He was born with congenital heart defects and a cleft palate, had undergone a dental operation at Great Ormond Street in late March 2014.

Because he had an artificial heart valve, he is on a commonly used blood thinner called warfarin to reduce the chance of clots developing.

After the operation he bled heavily but when he was discharged when it stopped, despite his mother’s concerns. Once home he started bleeding again.

Great Ormond Street advised he be taken to Watford’s A&E unit. He was treated with a blood clotting agent and sent home.

Miss Ali says her son continued to be unwell but that it was not until March 31st that Great Ormond Street agreed to carry out a blood test.

The next day she was told his haemoglobin level was abnormal but was told to go to Watford hospital, as Great Ormond Street had no beds.

Staff at Watford made plans to carry out a blood transfusion the next day.

But before doing so, on the instructions of Great Ormond Street, they ordered a heparin infusion, despite Miss Ali’s protests.

Her son now cannot walk or talk and needs constant care.

She has hired solicitors Irwin Mitchell to press a case of gross medical negligence against Great Ormond Street.

She told The Daily Telegraph: “It was torture, knowing what would happen if Elijah was given heparin but being unable to stop it. I tried my best to fight them, but they didn’t listen.

A serious incident report by Watford Hospital said its staff were working under the instructions of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We recognise that there are lessons to be learned in relation to the care provided to Elijah, including in relation to the advice we received from the specialist hospital in charge of his case. As a result, we have made a number of changes which will help prevent a similar event happening again.

Dr Vin Diwakar, medical director at Great Ormond Street Hospital, said: “We cannot imagine what an immensely difficult time this must be for the family.”

He said an investigation had been launched, but that it was not yet possible to determine whether anything could have been done differently.

SAS Hero kills 6 Isis soldiers while protecting undercover agent

British soldiers© PA British soldiersAn SAS hero managed to single-handedly kill six Islamic State terrorists in Syria after being ambushed in a fierce fire fight.

The unnamed solider was operating in Syria while trying to smuggle a secret agent out of Syria, which is being ruled in large parts by ISIS monsters.

They were trying to get the agent across the border from Syria to Iraq.

However the British troops feared the worst when they were ambushed by 30 militants.

But during an intense fire fight, one of the SAS troops managed to kill six ISIS fighters himself using an automatic shotgun.

A source told the Daily Star on Sunday: “It was a classic SAS encounter. They had lost the initiative when the ambush was sprung.

“They were out-gunned and out-numbered but the team remained calm and focused.

“The last thing the jihadis expected was to be attacked, given that the SAS team consisted of eight men and there were at least 30 enemy fighters.

“The SAS quickly regained the initiative by using courage, aggression and firepower.”

The secret British troops then managed to successfully flee to their headquarters located in Iraq, sources claim.

Apple’s new iPhone software set an impressive record

More than half of Apple’s mobile devices have upgraded to iOS 9.

Apple’s latest mobile operating system, iOS 9, has been downloaded at a faster rate than any other previous Apple OS, according to a company statement.

With this momentum, as spelled out by Apple’ senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller, iOs 9 is “on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple’s history.”

More than 50 percent of devices have already migrated to the new OS, which was only released to the public on September 16. This would beat outsider estimates, which according to Apple Insider, was pegged at an early adoption rate of around 36%.

This also beats early estimates comparing the adoption of iOS 9 with its predecessor, iOS 8. MacRumors said early analysis had shown that users had installed both operating systems at roughly the same pace, and it remains to be seen if any technical glitches could slow down the downloading of iOS 9, as was the case with the previous OS.

The ease of upgrading operating systems also highlights a key differentiation between Apple and Google’s mobile operating system Android. The fracturing of many mobile phones running different variations of the Android OS means upgrading new versions take much longer on Google’s platform. The early 12% adoption rate for iOS 9 among Apple users in 24 hours, for example, took Android’s last operating system, Lollipop, 5 months to achieve.

Ad Blockers Top The App Store

One of the better features in this week’s newly released version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 9, is the ability for users to block ads on mobile websites, along with other content that can slow down browsing and eat away at mobile data plans. And while somewhat of a geekier feature to implement – users have to download apps then head into iOS’ “Settings” to enable their blocker of choice – it seems that new iOS 9 users are thrilled to have access to this added functionality. Only a day after the release of the updated software, ad blockers are topping the charts in the App Store.

Granted, none of the free ad-blocking utilities – like AdBlock Plus’s new ad-blocking mobile browser, for example, or the combination privacy-tracking app and ad blocker Ghostery – have been able to yet unseat any of the App Store’s top free apps like Snapchat, Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or – sigh, Kylie Jenner’s new thing.

However, several of the ad-blocking apps are climbing the charts elsewhere on the App Store, including in the top Paid app lists and in the Utilities section.

For example, the Top Paid iOS app today is the new ad-blocker Peace, a $2.99 download from Instapaper founder Marco Arment. As he explained when announcing the app on Wednesday, Peace currently supports a number of exclusive features that aren’t found in other blockers yet. Most notably, it uses Ghostery’s more robust blocklist, which Arment licensed from the larger company by offering them a percentage of the app’s revenue.

Other ad blockers are also topping the paid app chart as of today, including the Purify Blocker (#3), Crystal (#6), Blockr (#12). (Ranks as of the time of writing.)

And in the top Utilities section of the App Store, these types of apps are found even higher up, with Peace, Crystal and Blockr filling out the top 3 positions in the top paid utilities chart.

Screen Shot 2015-09-17 at 1.08.25 PM

Although there are currently only a handful of blockers gaining enough downloads to become highly ranked, there are tons of these sorts of apps in development. We looked at a few of these (1Blocker, Blockr, Crystal) just ahead of iOS 9’s launch, and since then have heard from other ad blocker makers like Silentium (arrives soon), Adblock FastPurify, and Clearly, to name a few.

And there are many more still poised to arrive or launching now, like Adamant, Freedom, Hide and Seek, and Just Content.

It appears that the question for mobile consumers today isn’t really one of whether or not they want a blocker installed, but rather which one to choose?

At a high level, the blockers are fairly interchangeable – all will block ads and, typically, other content like tracking scripts when you surf with mobile Safari. However, some allow you to customize the blocking experience further – like by turning off or on particular types of content to block (social share widgets, videos, ads, fonts, comments, etc.). Others like you whitelist select sites or specify that you only want to block third-party cookies, as well as tweak other details.

The decision, then, is how much do you want to fiddle with your blocking settings? For those looking to just “set-it-and-forget it,” simpler utilities like Crystal or the newly launched Peace make more sense. For those who want to personalize their experience, many others offer a range of settings from simple toggle switches in the app to online dashboards where you can create complex rule statements.

IMG_2937

With the arrival of these apps, publishers and advertisers are fretting about the immediate impact to their bottom lines and business, which means they’ll likely soon try to find ways to sneak around the blockers. In that case, it should be interesting to see which of the apps will be able to maintain their high degree of ad blocking over time.

The best thing about the release of these apps is that it proves the App Store isn’t always the land of Idiocracy, like it sometimes seems. It’s good to see that a significant number of mobile consumers understand the benefit of these new utilities, despite their somewhat geeky nature and means of installation that involves fussing around with iOS’s settings. That’s a testament to how broken the mobile web has been to date, and how hungry people have been for a better browsing experience.

Deaths as Boko Haram hits Nigeria’s Maiduguri

8aa5fccec17041babbc4350c7f9c51fd_18

At least 54 people were killed in a series of blasts in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri, police said, the latest attacks by Boko Haram armed rebels on “soft” civilian targets.

The attacks on Monday targeted the Ajilari Cross evening market area and neighbouring Gomari, hitting worshippers at a mosque and football fans watching a televised match.

The army and rescuers said the explosions were caused by homemade devices, but one local and the police said a female suicide bomber also blew herself up.

Opinion: Boko Haram’s return under Buhari

“Fifty-four persons died while 90 others were injured,” Borno state police spokesman Victor Isuku told reporters.

Locals however, put the death toll at at least 21.

The blasts — the latest to hit the city in the six-year armed campaign — came after Nigeria’s army claimed the rebels were in disarray.

But Boko Haram’s shadowy leader Abubakar Shekau denied the group was a spent force, describing the military claims as “lies” in an audio recording published via social media on Saturday.

The explosions also followed a warning from Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari that “conventional” Boko Haram attacks were decreasing but that suicide and homemade bomb outrages could continue.

‘Desperate’ attacks

Army spokesman Sani Usman said the blasts, which locals believed could have been aimed to distract security forces to enable an attack on the city, “signify (a) high level of desperation on the part of the Boko Haram terrorists”.

Bashir Ibrahim, who lives in the densely populated Gomari area, near Maiduguri airport, said there were “four separate blasts that went off simultaneously.”

At least six people were killed in the first at Ajilari Cross, which in May came under heavy shelling from Boko Haram fighters.

The second injured 14, including children hawking goods at the scene but no-one was killed, he added.

Witness Faruq Ali, a trader, said the third bomb exploded at a mosque not far from the Binta Sugar area and may have been targeted by a woman wearing an explosives vest.

Markus John, a tyre repairer, said the fourth bomb exploded close to the mosque near a football “viewing centre”, where matches are shown to the public on a large screen.

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state and the birthplace of Boko Haram in 2002, has been the epicentre of the six-year-old insurgency and repeatedly attacked since Buhari assumed office.

Overall, the violence has left at least 17,000 dead since 2009, according to Amnesty International, while the UN estimates that more than two million have been made homeless in the same period.

Apart from suicide and bomb attacks in Nigeria, the rebels have also carried out deadly cross-border raids in neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

A new 8,700-strong regional force comprising all four countries plus Benin is set to deploy against the armed groups.

What Happens When You Put A Piece Of Onion In Your Ear Will Blow Your Mind

Nowadays people seem to be popping pills like they’re candy, we get an ache here and a pain there and we make a beeline straight for the medicine cabinet. However, it turns out dabbling in a tub of tablets from your local pharmaceutical store may not be the way forward to solving your physical woes.

What is the answer then I hear you ponder… apparently the secret lies in natural remedies not synthetic medication. More specifically I’m talking about one of the world’s healthiest foods that doubles as a medicinal agent, onions. Obviously not when they are deep fat fried in an onion bhaji (although they do taste bloody good) but when the vegetable is used in a variety of different ways that you may have never considered before. Shrek was right onions do “have layers”, layers and layers of health benefits hiding underneath that skin.

1. Wave bye-bye to that annoying cough

Your breath will probably smell like ass but using onions in cough syrup has proven to be highly effective. Mix it with a bit of honey to improve taste as both have properties that help us to heal.

1

2. Stop earaches

Can you hear that? That’s me telling you that a staple cupboard ingredient can help to alleviate the struggles of earache. Take the heart – the innermost part of the onion – and insert it into your ear. They are known to decrease the pain and soften the wax, ultimately acting as an incredible natural anti-inflammatory.

Lights out!

Be warned: If you’re afraid of the dark, you might want to skip this one.

Lights Out is a short horror film that follows a woman readying herself for bed, only to find that something may be lurking in the shadows. At just under three minutes, this short video has us wanting to leave the lights on full time.

  • Men arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap and have now been bailed

Four men have been arrested after allegedly trying to kidnap a 13-year-old girl with their white van.

Urban-Exploring Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch

On the 18th of November, 2003, Michael Jackson’s 3,000-acre primary residence, Neverland Ranch, was searched by 70 police officers from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department after accusations that Jackson had molested some children (The People of the State of California v. Michael Joseph Jackson). Following this, Jackson abandoned his estate, saying it had been “violated”, and three years later the property went into foreclosure. While the Ranch floated in real estate limbo, a group of photographers snuck onto the grounds and explored the abandoned kingdom, returning several times between December 2007 and March 2008. I spoke to the photographers to see what they saw. (Because tresspassing is illegal safety and I was feeling nostalgic for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they will be referred to as Leonardo, Raphael and Donatello. A fourth member contributed photography and was not interviewed.)

VICE: What inspired you guys to explore Neverland Ranch?
Leonardo: It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing. I was aware that the park had been abandoned for quite a while, and I knew that Jackson was in Dubai at the time and that he wasn’t able to pay his electric bills. So, my understanding was that it would be a short-lived opportunity. I usually drive along the 101 freeway, and I decided, I have a few extra hours, I’m just going to go check it out. It just so happened that the day I was out there, it was pretty windy. It was a good cover because there were guards on-site, and the wind sort of blocked out my noise and I was able to sneak in without being heard. I had no expectation to make it in, but I just wanted to see.

What was the weirdest shit you saw?
[Raphael laughs]
Leonardo: Raphael is laughing because everything we saw was pretty weird. To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of Michael Jackson, but I just knew that he was an important American historical figure. At the time, most people probably didn’t realise that he was part of history, and I knew that there was the potential for everything that was associated with him to be quickly lost. Without our documentation, I think it would’ve been a huge loss. So, I thought it was important to do that as quickly as we could, before it was gone.
Raphael: Sorry, what’s the weirdest thing we saw? Are we talking about going into his house? Is that part of the story?

How did you guys get into his house?
Raphael: We probably don’t want to talk about details about how we entered.

Was it difficult?
Leonardo: We didn’t have to break any laws, because it was open. It was all open. The house was open.

Okay. Wow.
Raphael: One thing that really sticks out in my memory was drinking his grape soda from that walk-in kitchen storage area and then very carefully wiping the fingerprints off the bottle and hiding it in the bushes.

Wait, you drank his juice?
Raphael: I was thirsty and he had all of this grape soda, and I thought I’d just drink something from his house.

Was it actual grape soda?
Raphael: Yeah! It was actual grape soda! In the kitchen there was this “Children of the World” menu. Everything in there was geared toward children. I’m not sure he had any, but…

He did.
Raphael: Having that menu there, on a permanently printed chalkboard it had peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches and macaroni and cheese or something, that sticks out in my mind. The general strange hodgepodge of shit that he had bought that didn’t have any relation to his house. His entire house was filled with these really expensive looking one-off random, semi-artistic things.

Semi-artistic?
Raphael: These weird mirrors on this four-foot by four-foot platform. And that would be next to some Roman statue-looking thing. Next to that would be an eight-foot-tall oil painting of Michael Jackson himself. There were all of these paintings inside the house.
Donatello: There’s one where he’s leading a procession of children.

What was the vibe in the house?
Donatello: I was really on-edge and uncomfortable, mostly because I was worried that someone might find us in there and I think it’s just such a breach of privacy. It was so compelling to do it; I couldn’t not go in because the opportunity was in there. But at the same time, it just felt like I shouldn’t be doing this. It was this constant friction between fascination and, “I’ve got to get the fuck out of here, I shouldn’t be in here.”
Leonardo: That’s true. We all felt that way. We [as urban explorers] don’t normally ever do that – go in peoples’ houses.
Raphael: It’s all usually industrial, or old schools, or things that aren’t people’s personal residences. At one point, I got so fed up with the weirdness that I went outside and I tried to loosen them up by banging on the door, and I had a flashlight in my hand, and made it look like I was busting them. Donatello did not respond nicely to that. We fuck around with each other quite a bit, but they were. Donatello was so furious that I did that.

Can rice actually save your wet phone?

Recently, while spending a weekend in Upstate New York, I jumped into a lake with my shorts on. Unbeknownst to me, my battered iPhone 5S sat snugly in my pocket. Sometime during my swim, the phone slipped out and disappeared. I had no idea where it had gone until 26 hours later, when a swimmer noticed the phone’s reflective Apple logo winking at him from the lake’s muddy bottom. He fished it out, and solemnly presented its soaking, lifeless corpse to me. “I’m sorry,” he said.

No matter how faint the prospect of revival, every wet phone elicits the same folksy remedy: put in rice, my friends said. Put it in rice, my parents said, and leave it there for at least a day. Jasmine, long grain, risotto, dark wild, or basmati, put it in rice. So I did: I found an abandoned box of Uncle Ben’s, buried my phone under the grains, put it back in the pantry, and waited for the rice to work its magic.

In an era of Genius Bars, man-on-robot assault, and do-it-yourself handgun drones, the so-called rice trick feels like a kernel of ancient wisdom, passed down from one generation to the next. You can almost imagine our ancestors dunking their precious, soggy goods into burlap sacks of rice long ago. But where did the rice trick come from — and does it really work?

In July 2007, less than a month after the first iPhone was released, a MacRumors forum member by the name of jorsuss launched a thread called “I dropped my iPhone in water” with a familiar tale: “I was checking the phone if I got any calls or messages and I dropped it in the sink.” Jorsuss covered the phone with rice in what may have been the first documented attempt to use the rice trick on an iPhone. It didn’t work, but it is proof that the method existed before the iPhone, even if the details of the technique were fuzzy — “Is the rice supposed to be cooked or uncooked when using it to dry out a water-soaked cell phone?” asked one user on Yahoo Answers at the time.

One month earlier, in June 2007, a Washington Post reporter dropped his BlackBerry into a toilet while prepping for a date. When he saved his phone (and his date) using the rice trick, it merited a personal account in the paper along with a write-up on LifeHacker: “Dry out your soaked gadgets in rice.” But the phone-saving tip predates the smartphone —back in 2000 at least one user used it to help him revive a Nokia 5130.

Jaden Smith’s Older Girlfriend is Being CHARGED With STATUTORY RAPE!

#1

Will Smith and Jada Pickett’s son Jaden Smith, is now dating an older woman and that’s not all.. She has a criminal record. The Karate Kid actor was seen showing his girlfriend off all around New York During Fashion week. No one seemed bothered with the fact that she is almost 30 and he’s not even 18 yet. Well I’m wondering did anyone clutch their purses while she was in the room? Y’all know she steals.

#2

Her name is Sarah Snyder. She is an aspiring actress with some iMDB credits and felony credits linked to her name. It was reported before that, she was in jail for stealing a $16,000 Hermes bag. That price pushed her charge right into the felony department. So she is now walking around with a criminal record.

Now that she is dating Will Smith’s young son, she don’t have to steal no more! Hopefully they can get that charge wiped off her record. But Jaden Smith has had his pick of young Hollywood. I guess he likes it in Cougar town.

Seems like Jaden has learned a thing or two from his ex girlfriend Kylie Jenner’s relationship. The older the berry… Oh never mind. Good luck Jaden

Refugees and migrants are not the same thing

Do not judge Hungary too harshly. Britain may find that it needs to impose draconian border controls, too

A girl is overcome by pepper spray and tear gas after Hungarian police repelled an attempt by migrants to break the border post gate and pull down the razor wire fence

A girl is overcome by pepper spray and tear gas after Hungarian police repelled an attempt by migrants to break the border post gate and pull down the razor wire fence

Hate figure of the week is Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, who a few days ago put up a wall to keep out illegal immigrants who were pouring into his country from Serbia. Once that route was denied to them the immigrants went into Croatia, and sought to enter Hungary from there. In response, Mr Orban is now erecting a razor-wire barrier between his country and Croatia.

Other European nations, led by the Germans, are outraged at him. He has not lessened their opprobrium by unsubtly justifying his actions on the grounds that he wishes to keep Hungary as a “Christian” country. Those around Europe who grandstand by savaging Mr Orban – and we all know there is no faster way to seek to gain respectability and brownie points than by being seen to attack someone else’s perceived racism – conveniently ignore the unfortunate fact that most of his fellow countrymen agree with him.

I suspect many other Europeans, most of whom face an unprecedented wave of migration, feel the same. It is much easier to attack when you further away from the front line or when, like the Germans, you have in living memory committed grotesque crimes against humanity for which you still feel the need to make very public atonements. Many Europeans – and I suspect this includes a fair number of Germans too, beneath their holier-than-thou exteriors – feel they ought to be consulted before their political leaders change the fundamental nature of their cultures by allowing a wave of mass immigration. Mr Orban has sensed the feelings of his people and, as a democratic leader should, acted accordingly.

How to create your own Snapchat geofilter

snapchat geofilter fenwaypark
Credit: Lauren Brousell

If you use Snapchat you are probably familiar with applying geofilters to photos and videos. Geofilters are image overlays that indicate your location, which you add to a photo or video by swiping to the right.

snapchat fenway geofilter neighborhood

For example, if I’m standing in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, I can take a photo and swipe right to reveal several interesting designs on the top or bottom of the screen indicating my location. Because Fenway is a popular, high-traffic area in Boston, there are several geofilters that pop up: Two different Fenway Park-inspired designs and one that says Boston with an image of the city’s skyline.

But what if you live in an area doesn’t have any geofilters yet or you want to add a new one to the mix? Here’s how to create your own.

First, make sure you have the capability to create a PNG file through programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or other image-editing app. This is where Snapchat wants you to be creative. Come up with a geofilter design that represents a particular town, neighborhood, public venue or landmark.

Before you start your design, download one of the templates for Photoshop or Illustrator provided on Snapchat’s website. The PNG file must be saved as Web-optimized (i.e., save the file for the Web when you’re done) and transparent with a width of 1,080 pixels and a height of 1,920 pixels. The image size must be under 300KB. Leave some empty space, 149 pixels worth, above and below the image. Snapchat also recommends avoiding images that create borders around the entire screen. However, borders that cover a corner of the screen or one side are acceptable.

snapchat geofilter steps2

Snapchat

Snapchat offers guidelines for creating geofilters.

(Click for larger image.)

All designs must be approved by Snapchat and the company has some guidelines for making a successful geofilter. It recommends designing geofilters for places where people are likely to send Snapchats. The image must be original artwork, not a logo or existing photograph. Businesses are not eligible for user-created geofilters. Sponsored geofilters are generated through partnerships between businesses and Snapchat.

[ Related: Two Snapchat features you probably don’t know about ]

Once you’ve finished a design that fits those requirements, submit it through Snapchat’s website. This is where you’ll select the exact location that your geofilter represents and upload your image. Type your location into the search bar on the top of the map, then click and drag the lines to create a zone around a specific area, such as a street or portion of a neighborhood. This will indicate the area where the geofilter will show up for users. Then click on the upload image button on the right side of the screen and fill out the form below with your name, email and why the location is meaningful to you.

Then hit Submit. If you’re lucky (and creative) Snapchat will accept it and notify you via email and users will see it pop up at your favorite location.

Ronda Rousey and Floyd Mayweather finally fight (in ‘Street Fighter 4’)

Polygon reports:

YouTube user and game designer Richie Branson “played around with texture files” in the PC version of the game to create the Mayweather and Rousey characters, then took them through a little highlight reel of each fighter’s style and finally pitted the two against each other. Branson used CPU-controlled characters for the bout to keep things honest.

Who will be the next Floyd Mayweather? Four contenders

Who will be the next Floyd Mayweather? Four contenders

Floyd Mayweather insists he has retired at 49-0, leaving vacant the titles of pound-for-pound king and the next pay-per-view star in boxing. Fortunately, a successor can be decided right where it should be — in the ring — if all goes according to plan.

Mayweather, 38, presumably took his last bows as an active fighter with a unanimous decision over Andre Berto last

Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It was an underwhelming production that according to reports drew about 450,000 pay-per-view buys compared to the record 4.6 million for Mayweather’s much-hyped fight with Manny Pacquiao in May.

Boxing is in need of a new headliner, a search that starts with two middleweight championship fights: Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 17 and Miguel Cotto vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas. The two winners are mandated to meet early next year for the WBC middleweight title.

An optimist might suggest Golovkin, Lemieux, Cotto and Alvarez could be the modern-day version of Hagler, Leonard, Duran and Hearns.

That’s legendary stuff from an era that would be hard to duplicate. But the next two months will at least provide a new pound-for-pound king and perhaps a fresh start to a new era.

The front-runner is Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) of Kazakhstan, who owns the WBA Super and IBO middleweight titles. Expertly promoted by K2 Promotions and frequently featured by HBO, Golovkin’s popularity has skyrocketed enough in recent years to sell more than 15,000 tickets at MSG for his fight against Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs), the heavy-handed IBF champion from Montreal. Golovkin’s debut as a pay-per-view attraction was perfectly timed for Mayweather’s retirement.

“Every step is bigger. Every step is better,” Golovkin said recently.

It will be interesting to see if the boxing public, which virtually ignored Mayweather’s bout with Berto, will spend PPV money to see Golovkin. The price for Mayweather-Berto was $74. Golovkin-Lemieux is being offered by HBO PPV for $49.95. Mayweather barely drew 350,000 buys when he made his pay-per-view debut against Arturo Gatti in 2005, so it’s hard to predict how well Golovkin-Lemieux will do.

“These fighters are getting ready to start their own legacy in the middleweight division, and what better place than The Mecca of Boxing?” said Bernard Hopkins, the former middleweight champion turned Golden Boy promoter.

The winner of Golovkin-Lemieux is certain to benefit from the exposure of a potential bout against the victor of Cotto-Canelo, which is set for Mandalay Bay and offered by HBO PPV.

Cotto-Alvarez is the mega-fight of the year next to Mayweather-Pacquiao and the latest chapter in the rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico. Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs), of Guadalajara, is the former WBC/WBA super welterweight champion. Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) has been rejuvenated working under trainer Freddie Roach and will be making the second defense of the WBC title he won from Sergio Martinez.
It also marks the first PPV collaboration between Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which backs Alvarez, and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, Cotto’s promoter.

“That’s a red-hot fight with a lot of heat and intensity,” said a boxing insider. “The boxing world, if not the sporting world, will be focused on that fight. It should do really well.”

Jill Diamond of the World Boxing Council announced last month “the winner of Golovkin-Lemieux will be mandated to fight the winner of Cotto-Canelo.” That should give 2016 its first major bout. A loser’s bracket matchup wouldn’t be bad either.

And there’s this: Don’t be surprised if the winner between Cotto-Alverez becomes discussed as a potential opponent should Mayweather decide to return for a 50th fight.

Chris Brown being investigated for ASSAULT

hip-hop shootings lately chris brown

To say Chris Brown has had a troubled history with women would be to make light of the issue. Though the super star singer was welcomed with (mostly) open arms back into the inner circles of pop and R&B, the 2009 incident in which he brutally assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna is the subtext of all of his many legal troubles in the half-decade since. Now, Brown is faced with his most troublingly similar hurdle since. According to TMZ, Brown is a person of interest in a police into a woman’s claim that she was thrown off the “Loyal” singer’s tour bus in Colorado. Brown’s tour bus was reportedly parked outside the Platinum 84 Gentleman’s Club in Denver, where he had just shot a music video with French Montana and Fetty Wap.

The unnamed woman’s complaint–which is for 3rd degree assault–claims that when she balked at the bus’s no-cell-phone policy, she was physically thrown onto the curb, breaking her phone in the process. (It was not immediately clear if the woman was injured during the incident.) TMZ’s law enforcement sources tell the outlet that local police have surveillance video from the strip club that shows what went down. Authorities are seeking interviews with Brown and others present. Following his 2009 plea deal in the Rihanna case, the singer was sentenced to six months’ worth of community service and five years’ probation, as well as domestic violence counseling. He recently won shared custody of his daughter, Royalty. In other news, it seems that his history of violence toward women is keeping him out of New Zealand:

Qatari sheikh leaves US after racing Ferrari through LA

A Qatari sheikh has abruptly left the US after his yellow Ferrari was caught on camera racing through Beverly Hills.

Police were considering charging Sheikh Khalid Hamad Al-Thani with reckless driving and other offences before he – and his cars – disappeared.

The Thani family rule Qatar, but it is unclear whether Sheikh Al-Thani is part of the Arab state’s royal family.

A video shows his yellow Ferrari racing a white Porsche down residential streets, passing a stop sign.

The video ends with the Ferrari’s engine smoking as the sports car pulls into a driveway in the affluent section of Los Angeles.

Sheikh Al-Thani has been dubbed the “patron sheikh” of drag racing, according to the Los Angeles Times.

He has given millions to Al-Anabi Racing, and has been photographed driving on racetracks a number of times.

Police said the cars in the video were driving recklessly.

However, officers who arrived to find the cars in the drive were unable to make an arrest or issue a citation as they hadn’t witnessed the incident.

Investigators have connected Al-Thani to the car, but they are yet to confirm whether he was driving either vehicle as the drivers’ faces weren’t clear in footage or pictures.

The footage drew further attention after police said someone involved claimed diplomatic immunity.

Lieutenant Lincoln Hoshino, a spokesman for the Beverly Hills police, said the car was not registered with the State Department to be brought into the US.

Mr Hoshino also stated that it was unlikely the man had diplomatic immunity.

“It’s against a federal law for someone to claim diplomatic immunity when they don’t have it, so we’re looking at that and then we’re also looking at the reckless driving,” Beverly Hills Police Chief Dominick Rivetti told reporters.

Beverly Hills authorities said that they may look to prosecute those involved, and that the Qatari consulate has been contacted.

The video has since gone viral and has now been viewed over 1.2 million times.
